Working two rates in one shift
If part of a shift is paid at a different rate, such as two hours as lead hand, enter it as two shifts back to back, and set the rate on each one.
Entering it
- Enter or clock the first part of the shift at its rate.
- Add a second shift that starts the minute the first one ends, at the other rate.
For example, 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at your regular rate, then 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at your lead rate.
To set the rates, see Other rates, such as a lead rate.
Paying the whole shift at the higher rate
If your contract says the whole shift is paid at the higher rate, set both parts to that rate by hand. Open each shift from Week, change Hourly rate and tap Save.
How the two parts are counted
- Overtime: both parts count toward the day’s hours, so overtime starts at the right time.
- Meal premium: back-to-back shifts count as one long shift.
- Breaks: add a break to whichever part it fell in.
Good to know
- Shifts can’t overlap, so start the second one exactly when the first ends.
Estimates only. Not legal advice.
