Union contracts & custom rules
Setting up your contract rules
Contract rules tell Paycheq how your collective agreement pays: overtime, day rates, premiums, call-outs, banked time and more. They replace your province's rules wherever your contract covers them.
The long-shift meal premium
Many contracts pay extra on long shifts: half an hour at double time plus a $10 meal allowance once you pass 11 hours, and the same again once you pass 15.
Call-out minimums
If you're called in outside your schedule, many contracts pay a minimum number of hours, such as 4, even if you work less.
How does banked time work?
Banked time saves your overtime as paid time off, instead of paying it on your cheque. Paycheq keeps track of what you bank, what you claim, and your balance.
When more than one rule applies
Sometimes two contract rules give a rate for the same hour, such as Sunday at 1.5× and overtime at 2×. How rules combine decides which one you're paid.
Working two rates in one shift
If part of a shift is paid at a different rate, such as two hours as lead hand, enter it as two shifts back to back, and set the rate on each one.
Paid breaks and unpaid meal breaks
Your contract can say which breaks are paid, and whether a meal break comes off even if you didn't record one.
Shift premiums and on-call pay
Premiums are dollar amounts added to your pay, such as $1.50 an hour for nights or $20 for an on-call shift. Add them as contract rules.
