Holidays in Prince Edward Island

Prince Edward Island has 8 paid holidays. If you qualify, you get 5% of your recent wages. Working on the holiday pays 1.5×.

The holidays

  • New Year’s Day: January 1
  • Islander Day: third Monday in February
  • Good Friday
  • July 1 (it doesn’t move when it falls on a Sunday)
  • Labour Day: first Monday in September
  • National Day for Truth and Reconciliation: September 30
  • Remembrance Day: November 11
  • Christmas Day: December 25

Who qualifies

There’s no waiting period. The day card in Week asks: did you work your last work day before the holiday or your first work day after it, or have permission or a reasonable cause to miss both? You lose holiday pay only if you missed both.

How much

5% of your wages in the 4 weeks before the holiday, not counting overtime. Vacation pay and earlier holiday pay in those weeks count.

If you work on the holiday

You’re paid 1.5× for the hours you work, plus your holiday pay, even if you don’t qualify for holiday pay. Or your employer may pay your regular rate and give you another day off with pay. On the day screen, choose Premium pay or Day off later.

If it’s your day off

Your employer gives you another day off with pay. Paycheq counts the holiday pay on the holiday itself.
