Holidays in Saskatchewan

Saskatchewan has 10 public holidays. Everyone gets public holiday pay, with no waiting period, whether or not they’d have worked that day.

The holidays

  • New Year’s Day: January 1
  • Family Day: third Monday in February
  • Good Friday
  • Victoria Day: the Monday before May 25
  • Canada Day: July 1, or July 2 when July 1 is a Sunday
  • Saskatchewan Day: first Monday in August
  • Labour Day: first Monday in September
  • Thanksgiving Day: second Monday in October
  • Remembrance Day: November 11
  • Christmas Day: December 25

Who qualifies

Everyone. There’s nothing to answer about qualifying.

When a holiday falls on a Sunday

Where a business is normally closed on Sundays, New Year’s Day, Christmas Day or Remembrance Day on a Sunday is observed on the Monday. The first time one falls on a Sunday, its day card asks “Is your workplace normally closed on Sundays?” Paycheq remembers your answer for later holidays.

If you answer Yes, the holiday moves to the Monday, and its card says “Moved from Sunday”. To change your answer, open the day of the holiday you answered it on.

How much

5% of your wages in the 28 days before the holiday, not counting overtime. Vacation pay for vacation taken and earlier holiday pay in those 28 days count.

If you work on the holiday

You’re paid 1.5× for the hours you work, plus your holiday pay. If the holiday moved to the Monday, this applies to the Monday.
