Entering a shift by hand
Forgot to clock in, or want to add shifts you’ve already worked? You can enter any shift by hand, and change or delete it later.
Adding a shift
- Tap + at the top right of the Clock or Week screen, then Add a shift. You can also open a day in Week and tap Add a shift, so the shift starts on that day.
- Set Starts and Ends. Tap the date or the time to change it. Times move in 5-minute steps.
- Check Hourly rate. It starts at your usual rate. Tap it to choose time and a half, double time, or one of your other rates.
- If you took a break, tap Add a break, choose Meal or Rest, and set From and To.
- Tap Save.
On the clock shows the length of the shift, less any breaks.

Shifts that cross midnight
For a night shift, set Ends to the next day. For example, for 9:00 p.m. Friday to 5:30 a.m. Saturday, set Starts to Friday at 9:00 PM and Ends to Saturday at 5:30 AM. The shift belongs to the day it started, and your rules decide how the hours after midnight are paid.
Choosing the rate
Leave the rate at your usual rate for normal shifts. Paycheq adds overtime, holiday pay and your contract’s rates for you.
Only pick time and a half or double time if your employer pays the whole shift at that rate, such as a shift you were paid double for. If part of the shift goes into overtime, Paycheq pays the higher rate, never one multiplied by the other.
Shift options
If your contract uses them, a Details section has switches for that shift:
- Called in outside my schedule, for a call-out minimum.
- On call, for on-call pay.
- Bank the overtime, if you choose which shifts to bank.
- I chose to leave early: turn this on if you left early by choice, so minimum daily pay doesn’t apply.
You can also add Notes.
Changing a shift
- Open the Week tab and tap the day.
- Tap the shift.
- Make your changes and tap Save.
Deleting shifts
- One shift: open it and tap Delete shift, or swipe left on it in the day screen.
- Several shifts: on Week or a day screen, tap Select, tap the shifts you want to remove, then tap the red Delete button at the bottom and confirm.
Good to know
- Shifts can’t overlap. If a new shift overlaps another, Paycheq tells you which one, so you can change the times or edit that shift.
- Shifts you enter by hand are marked “entered by hand” on the day screen.
- For a paid day off, such as vacation or a sick day, tap + on Week, then Add vacation or Add a sick day. It’s paid but doesn’t count as hours worked.
